Traditionally, the model uniform has revolved around the leather moto jacket. Paired with a classic white tee, it’s a style that carries an instant, effortlessly cool vibe—in other words, the perfect off-duty piece for castings. But this New York Fashion Week, catwalk stars have switched things up in the outerwear department. More specifically, Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid have been rocking a different coat while running around between shows—and it may just be the new model must-have.
The street-styled jacket in question? It’s all about shearling. Yesterday, Gerber, who walked Coach and many other shows this week, was spotted hitting the streets in a leather Loewe coat with a fluffy white lining. She paired the elongated style with a Reformation bodysuit, wide-leg jeans, a chic top-handle bag, and sleek boots. The same day, Hadid was also seen jetting around town in the shearling look, her jacket more of a fleece zip-up. She paired it with white jeans, a brown turtleneck, white sneakers, and her go-to shoulder bag. (Bonus points for the blingy Dior necklace, too.)
So, is the leather moto jacket officially on the outs with top models? It’s an enduring classic, so never say never. But if these It girls are any indication, the new model off-duty jacket (for this season at least) is all about staying cozy instead.
