EP350: 9 Things I Wish I Would’ve Known in the Beginning Stages of My Jewelry Company

When I started my first jewelry company, I would have done anything to have someone tell me what to do, give me the lowdown on industry secrets, and mentor me.

I was ambitious and ready to quit my full-time job to create the entrepreneur life for myself.

Having weekends with my husband and time to hang out with my friends sounded a lot better than showing up on the sales floor of Nordstrom every Saturday morning, a little hungover from the Friday night festivities (it was the 90’s and I was only 27).

Honestly, I wish a company like Flourish & Thrive Academy and our Laying the Foundation Program had been around back then because I really didn’t know what I was getting into and wanted to know how to grow my jewelry business

Starting (and growing) a jewelry company isn’t the hardest thing in the world if you know what you’re getting into beforehand.

If you’re a newbie or in a place where you’re trying to grow, you’ll love this episode of the Thrive by Design Podcast. I walk you through 9 things I wish I would have known in the beginning stages of my jewelry company. So whether you’re starting a business, you’ve been at this for a while, I hope you find some value in these tips.

Growing a Business Takes More Time Than Your  Full Time Job (in the Beginning)

Transitioning from being a full-time employee into full time entrepreneur will be exciting – you might even imagine Miami vacations, sipping Rosé all day, and hearing your Shopify store ding off the hook on the beach as passive income rolls in… Surprise! It’s not as easy as building a website and hoping people will show up to buy your new huggie hoops and crystal necklaces. In the beginning, you will likely work longer hours than you did at your 9-5 job. But if you set your business up right early on, you can design your business in a way that serves you and the Miami lifestyle you’ve always dreamed of – LOL.

Becoming a Business Owner is the Biggest Crash Course in Personal Development

Building a business will bring up all of your sh*t and it might feel like you’re at battle at times. You MUST grow as an individual if you want to swim (instead of sink). It might feel like a crash course in personal development so be prepared to face your insecurities and weaknesses. The emotional rollercoaster might be challenging, but it’s worth all of the growth because a resilient mindset will help you go far in business.

Price and Position Your Products RIGHT From the Get Go

One of the trickiest things about being a designer is pricing and positioning your brand to command higher prices for your collections. The key is to communicate the value of what you offer so that you attract the people who pay for high quality products..

The moral of the story? Set yourself up for success NOW so you create financial security doing what you love – making killer jewelry!

You’ll be learning more invaluable lessons that will help you grow your 6 (or even 7 figure) jewelry empire. Listen to the full episode and enjoy! You’re welcome.
